2004 Mixer Recaps :

February Mixer Recap:

The Women’s Club helped us get off to a good start by hosting our first mixer of the year. President Lani Stapp, officers and members out did themselves preparing an array of delicious food items. New members mixed with old sharing business operations and concerns. Our all time favorite bartender Bob Cota was absent recovering from his recent hospitalization, however, Del Stapp and Bob Muzingo stepped up to the plate and did a great job. A warm thank you to all for making this mixer a success, including all those that brought raffle gifts and purchased tickets.

March Mixer Recap :

Our March Mixer held at Dr. Music Center was great, we are so privileged to have such wonderful access to the world of music in our community. Derek Reymer and his staff were the perfect hosts. Those in attendance enjoyed the music of Leanne Powers and Harry Smallenburg’s Jazz Ensemble, “Out Too Late”. Old members once again had the opportunity to meet more new members and the networking was very exciting. Our long time dedicated bartender Bob Cota was back enjoying his return and of course we were all glad to see him again. A special thank you to our host Derek, to those that brought a raffle gift and to those that purchased raffle tickets. As always your support to your Chamber is greatly appreciated.

APRIL Mixer Recap :

Last month’s mixer held at Solheim Lutheran Home and hosted by Norma Heaton and staff was held in one of their lovely gardens. The ambience and warm evening made for a great mixer and had most of us thinking of summer. As always, the staff at Solheim do a great job of hosting any event, we were very fortunate to hold our April mixer there. Solheim is a tiered level service facility for seniors or for anyone needing the type of service they provide. Seniors can have small apartments, independent living with all the amenities of a fine hotel, or their own room in assisted living. Also on the property is a convalescent hospital and a locked Alzheimer unit both with skilled nursing. We are fortunate to have such a fine reputable establishment in our community.

A special thank you to Norma Heaton and her staff, those of you who brought door prizes and those of you that purchased raffle tickets. Your continued support is valued and appreciated.

More importantly, right now, we need to recognize the fact that monthly mixers are held for your benefit - local businesses and chamber members - so that you can network and support each other. Unfortunately, we are not getting out there and supporting each other. Hosting a mixer takes time, money and effort. We need to attend these once a month mixers and show our support, not only to the business hosting but to the chamber membership at large. So having said that, let us start with this month. [written in April ]

MAY Mixer Recap :

The May Mixer held at E.T.Y. Parts Imports, Inc. and hosted by ERCC Director Allen Yap was Fun - Fun - Fun. Upon arrival guests received a $500.00 chip from the house to try their luck at the blackjack table. The fun continued into the evening with wonderful Filipino food and lots of new faces. Alan’s father, Mr. Yap, the founder of E.T.Y. was in attendance along with Alan’s lovely wife Aimee. Thanks Alan for hosting such a fun mixer and thanks to those that brought a door prize and purchased raffle tickets.

June Mixer Recap

Our long awaited June mixer did not disappoint those in attendance. The Glendale Adventist Medical Center’s Therapy and Wellness Center is a welcome addition to our business community. Hosted by Vice President David Igler and the wonderful staff at the therapy center, group and personal tours were offered throughout the evening. New owner Daniel S. Andalon of the Juice Exchange catered the event with a great array of delectables. The center not only meets medical needs but offers classes to the public in different exercise programs and pilates classes for a nominal fee. For further information please call The Therapy and Wellness Center at 2560 Colorado Boulevard. A special thank you to David Igler, Denise Miller, Marion Watson, Stacy Sartor and Pat Prouty for their time and efforts in hosting a great mixer. Also, thanks to those of you that brought raffle gifts and to those of you that purchased raffle tickets, as always your support to your Chamber is appreciated.

JULYMixer Recap

Our July mixer hosted by ERCC Director and Past President, Dr. George Shapiro was well attended. Catered by Camilio’s and served outside it was enjoyed by all on a warm summer evening. Good business neighbors, good food and lots of conversation, what more can we ask. Thank you Dr. George for your continued support to the community and to the Chamber.

AUGUST Mixer Recap

Our August Mixer that was to be hosted by the Juice Exchange did not happen [the store was closed and there was no phone response]. Board members came to the rescue and a mixer at the Women’s Club was organized. Thanks to Lani Stapp and Roe Muzingo for opening the doors, and thanks to Vic Parrino for putting together some great finger foods in record time. The attendance was not as high as usual, however, all in all it turned out to be a good evening. Thank you to everyone who pitched in to help and to those that donated door prizes and purchased raffle tickets.

OCTOBER

Our October Halloween mixer, as always, was fun fun fun! Our hosts, LuLu Hizney and the Century 21 Crest staff combine their annual work related party with our mixer and like years past, out did themselves. Guests arrived in fantastic costumes to an area truly decorated for Halloween. Food, live music, and our bartender Vic Parrino, [Colombo’s Restaurant], a little rain and lots of good company brought us into the fall season. A special thank you to LuLu and staff for their generous hospitality and to all those that brought a door prize and purchased raffle tickets.

NOVEMBER MIXER]

It is always a pleasure when Bank of America hosts a mixer. It is nice to “network” socially with the bank staff, including Anne Kelly and Sossy Semerdjian. Sossy, the Vice President and Branch Manager, certainly got into the swing of things taking pleasure in preparing, herself, the finger foods that were served. We appreciate the time and effort of Sossy, Anne and staff for hosting our November mixer.

November was our last business hosted mixer of the year. The Chamber Executive Board would like to mention Edna Shelton and Lucy Spurgeon who have faithfully sold raffle and drink tickets each month. And our infamous bartender Bob Cota and those who have filled in for him when he was not available, such as

Del Stapp, Bob Muzingo and Vic Parrino, most recently Sue Ann Miller and Lydia Corral. Thank you!

DECEMBER MIXER -  Michael Cathay, Field Deputy, A. Villiarigosa, Firemen, Terry Field Rep for Mayor Hahn, ERCC President Michael Nogueira

Our Christmas mixer once again was held at LAFD Station 42, hosted by Sir Michael’s Enterprises and the ERCC. Funds raised through the raffle and three auction items totaled over $600.00, all of which will be put into a fund to assist those at the station with niceties that the city does not provide. As of date we have helped purchase items such as window coverings, tools, washing machine, landscaping, freezer and miscellaneous items. We feel every little bit makes it more comfortable for our fire crew while at work and away from home, for we do appreciate everything that they do.
