Headline: Comprehensive Community Health Centers –
Eagle Rock clinic screens community members for diabetes, and dental
disease.
Dateline: Eagle Rock & Glendale California – March
13, 2006
Comprehensive Community Health Center (CCHC) – Eagle
Rock clinic at 1704
Colorado Blvd. provided free diabetes and dental
screening at their open house. Diabetes and dental disease are reaching
epidemic proportions in our community.
In response,
CCHC-Eagle
Rock held its first open house on February 25th,
2006 and the next one will be held from 11:00 to 2:00 on Saturday, May 6th.
Comprehensive Community Health Center – Eagle Rock is
a community health center serving the people of Eagle Rock and Glendale.
“The rates of diabetes, and dental disease continue
to climb”, Dr. Armineh Tavitian, Chief Medical Officer of Comprehensive
Community Health Centers said. "In less than a generation, what was called
“adult onset diabetes” is now diagnosed in children, and we even find it
in children under 10” she added. "This is due in large part to kids not
getting enough exercise and eating foods too high in fat and sugar which
also contributes to dental disease.” To emphasize the importance of
exercise, the raffle prize at the CCHC open house was a BMX Trickster
bicycle.
In their report published February 2006, the Dental
Health Foundation reported that in a survey of California Schools, 28% of
children have untreated tooth decay, and 4% were in urgent need of dental
care because of pain or infection. Of 25 states surveyed, only one ranked
below California. The screenings provided at CCHC – Eagle Rock identified
children and adults at risk of dental disease.
Comprehensive Community Health Centers, Inc. has
three community health centers, one in Eagle Rock at 1704 Colorado Blvd
(323) 256-4116, a second at 5059 York Blvd. in Highland Park (323)
344-4144, and one at 12157 Victory Blvd. in North Hollywood (818)
