Dear Eagle Rock Chamber and Eagle Rock NC,
I have an update on the sign compliance issue about which I sent a
bit of info yesterday.
NO citations for sign compliance will be issued right away. In
order to help local businesses understand the Specific Plan and what
is required of them by the sign provisions of the Plan BEFORE
citations are issued, the council office has ensured that LADBS will
NOT be issuing citations right away and we have arranged an
educational meeting for businesses to be held with Planning and
LADBS staff on Friday July 20 at 2:30pm.
Any business operating in the Specific Plan area is required to be
in compliance with the sign guidelines of the Plan which is
enforceable by the Department of Building & Safety (LADBS). The
Colorado Blvd. Specific Plan is available on line at
cityplanning.lacity.org/complan/specplan/sparea/coloradoblvdpage.htm
In order to help affected businesses understand the provisions of
the Specific Plan and the upcoming compliance survey:
(1) LADBS will go around to businesses within the Plan area
beginning tomorrow and will issue "courtesy" notices - not official
orders to comply. This will let the businesses know they may have a
sign that is out of compliance and that there will be an official
survey coming up, at which time they will be officially cited if the
issue is not corrected.
(2) A meeting will be held Friday July 20 at 2:30pm at Eagle Rock
City Hall 2035 Colorado Blvd.
City Planning staff will explain the Colorado Blvd. Specific Plan,
the sign provisions, and the Design Review Board process.
LADBS staff will explain their upcoming survey of the boulevard for
sign compliance.
Local businesses can ask questions and get information.
It is recommended that any businesses within the Specific Plan area
attend and become informed, whether they received a "courtesy"
notice or not.
(3) LADBS will then begin its official compliance survey along the
boulevard at which time they will issue citations for signs which do
not comply with the Colorado Blvd. Specific Plan. The orders to
comply usually give a 30-day deadline for compliance and are not
accompanied by fines as long as the compliance it met within the
specified time frame.
There will be plenty of time to get to know and understand the
process before anyone is cited, but LADBS will be enforcing the
Specific Plan, so businesses within the Plan area do need to
understand the requirements and comply.
Please share this important information with the community and
please let me know if you have any questions of we can help in any
way.
Sincerely,
Jessica Wethington McLean
